A Victorian Valentine

Don't you just love it when you come across a vintage postcard? Whenever I go flea marketing or visit antique stores, I can't help but sift through all the cards, and think about who could have been the sender or recipient of these simple little notes.

This Valentine Greeting Postcard caught my eye with the lovely red roses and the Victorian writing! The front says: "Girlie Dear, My heart beats faster when I think of your sweet name; May I hope as you read this, Yours for mine will do the same." Isn't this just too sweet?

This particular note is dated 1913! I'm always surprised at how well-preserved these cards are ~ that is nearly 100 years ago!

Now tell me, what kind of vintage postcards do you like to collect? I like all different types, but the sweet love notes are my most favorite. And during the month of February {which by the way, is only 2 days away}, I like to take out my collection, and display them throughout my home. :)

Until next time, wishing you all a most lovely new week {and do stay-tuned for my Vintage-Inspired Valentine's Day Giveaway that is coming up very soon for all of my lovely readers}! :)

XO's,
Jessie

P.S. By the way, thank you all for the sweet comments on my last post regarding my Rosewater Cupcakes, I truly appreciate all of your kind words. I also updated that blog post and put the link up to the recipes/tips. You may CLICK HERE for the Recipe Page.

Morning Jessie,
That "Dear Girlie" Valentine is sweet.

I like the love notes, as well.

I also like the WWII "love letters" that were sent home by servicemen. I have a few of those, as well as ones my mother saved from my father, and I will post them one day.

Have a good one.....
Diane

I have a real affinity for vintage postcards as well! Not only is it the images and patina that gets my heart fluttering, it is the cursive writing! As a teacher, it is truly a lost art form. So much time was put into teaching this dying art form. I miss it! Have a great day, Jessie! Much love, Lisa

How pretty the vintage post card is! I never see them where I shop, maybe I should be looking for them! How fun it is with the almost 100 year old date on it. How fun it would be to know the story behind it.

Hi sweetie,
Love your postcard!! I used to collect anything with pink or red roses on it. Every now and again if I see one at the flea market that strikes me, I'll take it home.
Yours is really lovely!
I'm always amazed too at how well preserved they are after all of the years that have past. It's a beautiful part of history!
Have a wonderful night.
Sincerely,
Melinda

Jessie, your vintage valentines postcard is exquisite. I love the "Dear Girlie". It's too sad that these types of graphics and handwriting have gone out of style in today's world. I so appreciate them. And, I agree with you that Valentine's Day is beautiful and special. Do children still send Valentines to all their little classmates? We always did and it made it so special even to children. Love the Day!
And by the way, your cupcakes in your previous post are gorgeous!

This postcard made me smile. 'Girlie Girl' words are so cute. I too am amazed at the wonderful vintage postcards that are out there. I used to sell them when I was an antique dealer and now I regret not having them now. Victorian postcards are my fave.

Sweet card. I like how the sender wrote the note upside down. I've never seen that. I wonder if this was done so the mailman wouldn't read it?

Oh that's such a sweet find. I enjoy all the elaborate detailing of so much of the victorian era... the fancy fonts and verbage, nature elements- florals, birds, butterflies, the style of dress and of course the sweet expressions on the faces of children. Warm Hugs,

I love postcards as well... I buy them to tuck in Christmas or Birthday gift baskets.

My favorites are Christmas, Easter, or floral themes.

Here is a post I did featuring my favorite postcard... the title is 'Sweet Little Note'. A message between a Mr. & Mrs. in the 1950's.

This IS the loveliest vintage postcard I have seen in ages. I like its brightness. White appeals to me more than off-white. It is so bright and vibrant. I like to think that the person it is for was too.

Now I am off to see how to win it!
