Sweet Hearts

Hello everyone! How was your weekend? Well while the boys in my life were busy watching the Super Bowl game on Sunday, I ended up playing with some fabric. Now before I begin, I have to make it clear that I am by NO means sew savvy! This fun little project was solely based on the fact that I wanted to "make some pretty pastries" - without having to worry about eating them afterwards! lol

Ok, ya'll are probably wondering what the heck I'm talking about. Well, I have gained about 10-15 pounds over the holidays {so sad, but oh so true}. And that's on TOP of the extra 15 pounds I was trying to lose pre-holiday time. So, I figured why not make some pretty little baked goods...but with felt fabric & some beads instead! :)

I was inspired to do this initially by the "fake foods out of felt" that my son often plays with {they sell them at IKEA}. Now I have to tell you that it's been about a "minute" {a very long one...we're talking years here} since I've done any crafting with fabric. So please kindly forgive my rusty non-existent sewing skills.

So I went digging for my crafting supplies, and although I already had some needles & beads on hand, I ended up having to buy some embroidery floss {0.35 cents each} and felt squares {0.29 cents each} at Michaels. And instead of using polyester fill, I went cheapo and just used cotton balls from home {don't laugh}, because I didn't want to buy an entire bag! :)

I needed a refresher on how to blanket stitch and whip stitch, and this website here helped. But clearly I need some practice as you can see from my uneven spacing, but even so, I really enjoyed this fabric craft project. Who knows, maybe it will inspire me to purchase an actual sewing machine so that I can finally learn how to really sew properly {with a machine}! :)

But for now, I was content on making these "Sweet Hearts" and putting them in a box just for fun. :)

So I cut out some circles & hearts. Then decorated them with some "Hugs & Kisses" and some "Hearts." :)

...and some pastel colored beads. Stuffed them and then stitched up the edging all around.

Then put them in a box with some pink ribbon around. And voila, we have a petite box filled with some "pretty pastries."

But what can be better than a boxful of little pastries?

Well that would be a {vintage} plateful of pastries, of course! :) All I need now is some "coffee" or "tea" to go with it. :) Until next time, enjoy your week!

XOXO's,
Jessie

Hi Jessie! These are really "sweet" and are the only kind of treats I should be having too! I've gained 10 lbs since my surgery last year! We are going on a little vacation in a few weeks and am hoping for a miracle to lose it all by then!

Well it doesn't look like you haven't sewed for so long, you've done a really good job. I'm always having to remind myself how to do different stitches and I sew a fair bit. I love projects like that, where you can have a finished product in one session.

So cute and they look like cookies! I would not say you were rusty at all!

I am still chuckling about the pounds...Aren't holidays dangerous where they are concerned? I am with you and I am trying so hard to be good as it won't be long 'til spring will be here and I want to get into those pretty clothes!!!
Have a wonderful Valentines Day and HPS, too!
♥ Jil

Good Morning Jessie Sweetie...
Oh what a beautiful share. I simply adore your lovely pastries. Being an insulin diabetic these are some that even I could enjoy. They look simply delightful and I cannot thank you enough for sharing with me.

I will be checking out your link that you shared for the blanket stitch, as I too, am quite rusty, but would love to give it a try.

I am your newest follower. I love your shares. Can't wait to see what you share next. Many country hugs, Sherry

What lovely little creations! My family is not having any sweets or goodies for Valentine's this year either as my hubby just went on South Beach so I'll not be tempting him with any of my baked goods even though I use only organic and vegans ingredients as I started my new lifestyle change later last year for health reasons. I love the felt hearts and may have to dig in my craft supplies and see what I have available. Thanks so much for sharing. Your newest Linky friend.
